Babylon 5 [Dec. 14th, 2007|09:45 pm]
Alright, so on the recommendation of many people, I have borrowed Babylon 5 from a friend and Leanna and I watched the pilot yesterday. Now I have one very important question to ask those of you who have seen it.

Is it always this damn cheesy?

Seriously, if it stays that way through 5 seasons, I won't even last through one.

Movie Poster Sale [Oct. 12th, 2007|03:04 pm]
Ok, so over the years I have collected many flim posters and since moving, I realize that I don't have room to keep them sitting around. So I'm selling them. I'm putting this on my LJ first so that my friends and their friends can get first dibs, I will post the leftover list on the Edmonton community in one week.

If any of you want one of these posters, leave a message here, so that people know what has a dibs on it. I'm only asking a few dollars for these (and discounts for multiple items), they are all full sized and in mint condition. The image is generally the same as the cover art for the VHS/DVD, but I can post a picture if you want to know for sure what the poster is.

Please let your friends know about this, and if you know of any non-pawn shops that buy movie posters in good condition, let me know. SO, here is the list:

102 Dalmatians
All the Pretty Horses (two identical posters)
American Splendor
Antitrust
The Big Kahuna
The Bounce (two identical posters)
Center Stage
Committed
The Contender
Croupier (two identical posters)
The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas
Highlander 4
If These Walls Could Talk 2
Jesus' Son
The Legend of Bagger Vance
The Legend of Drunken Master

Meet the Parents
The Million DOllar Hotel (two identical posters)
Nurse Betty
Red Planet (two identical posters)
Screwed
Space Cowboys
Wild America (mini poster)
The Yards
Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman (two identical posters)

and the only non film poster I have is a Teemu Selani life size poster that I had when I lived in WInnipeg. Yes, this is a Winnipeg Jets vintage poster.

Hopefully I have something you want, just leave a message and I'll get back to you right away.

(no subject) [Aug. 13th, 2007|02:23 pm]
So I have made the transition over to the City Centre HMV from Kingsway. I am now a full time employee, which means an extra 50 cents and actual benefits from the company in another month or so. Only had a day there so far, but things are pretty different in many smalls ways and a handful of more important ways. The good news is that they are really desperate for morning people, which means I have 7 morning shifts during the next two weeks, with the other three being mid-shifts. Not working until 10pm is a good thing. The downside to those mid-shifts is that the St. Albert bus only runs every hour, so I have to wait until 8:15 when I finish a shift at 7:30pm. Good thing I have a GameBoy and a cell phone.

Speaking of which, Leanna and I have decided to stick with Rogers after all. We looked at the offers from Telus, and while they do give you more minutes for your money, I am doubtful that we would use all thoe extra minutes anyway. Rogers has never given me problems, and I am happy to stick with what I know. The biggest incentive however was probably the fact that Leanna needs a new phone since her screen died a while back. They both offer phones with a new contract, but Rogers is much more reasonable with their prices, and we didn't want to get sucked into a multi-year contract with a company we have no experience with. It's just a matter of going to a store and deciding on a specific phone for her.

That's all for now, nobody reads this anyway.

Employment! and other random occurences. [Jul. 31st, 2007|09:42 am]
That's right, after spending the past 6 months (yes it really has been that long) sitting around playing video games and just enjoying not having school or work to go to, I have found myself some gainful employment. Gainful may be a little misleading there, as my wage consists of peanuts. Regardless, I am now the newest lackey at HMV Kingsway as of last Friday. The job isn't all that bd, in fact it reminds me greatly of Rogers in many obvious and not-so ways. It's an income that is sorely needed however, and my paydays happen to be opposite weeks from Leanna's, making a weekly money influction very nice to have. Questions will now be fielded.

As a consequence to having a job, and part of that reason behind getting one, is the now possible hope of getting our very own apartment. I can hope to get one in the middle of this month, but I won't Squeezing in with all the new students for September will not be pleasant either, but we don't have a choice at this point. At least now we have a chance in hell of applying and getting one.

Went to five different concerts at Ed Fest, four with Leanna. Saw Weird Al and fulfilled a childhood dream to see him don a fat suit and shake his booty on stage to Michael Jackson beats. I had a deprived childhood. Also went to Ali's birthday party and had fun for the short time I was able to be there. Missed Mim's due to previously mentioned job, but I blame her extreme tardiness in planning said party.

I haven't been online in few days, and catching up on everything is not entirely possible, so if I missed anything important, it is best to let me know now.

I am now on my last month of having a drivers license, as I am not renewing my car insurance after it expires at the end of August. Gotta enjoy it while it lasts. I will however be getting a new cell phone/plan during that same week when Leanna and I switch over from Rogers to Telus and get a plan that is far better and $20 cheaper. The upgraded phone is just a bonus, as my current is a little worn but otherwise working just fine. I even have the original covers if I want a phone that doesn't look scratched up.

And for winner of stupidest-purchase-while-being-broke award, Leanna and I have purchased an XBOX 360 Elite console for $549.99. This upgraded system was released back in May, but everybody sold out of it within a week and nobody has gotten a new shipment since then. So imagine my surprise when I walk into the backroom of HMV on my first day and see two systems just sitting amongst the rubble of extra controllers and layer of dust. Two 360 Elite systems.

Apparently the never received a showbox for the systems and nobody was smart enough to just make a sign. Works for me, I bought it the next day. I also managed to score Kameo (a Mario-esque platformer) for the 360 from Best Buy for a mere $10. IT helps to ease the pain of spending so much money. Which by the way, after getting an extra controller and a nice co-op game to go along with the system, set us back a whopping $725.

Did mention that I *just* got a job and we're trying to move out on our own? It's an early Christmas present for us. Yes, that excuse is valid. Yes, we are game addicts. No, I will not be going anywhere or spending any money in August.

I think that wraps up the highlights from my recent situation, I wouldn't dare attempt to go into detail for everything. Comment, I want to hear from you!

Busy Month [Jul. 5th, 2007|02:41 pm]
I actually bought a bus pass for this month for a few different reasons, and it's a good thing too. I've got lots of places to go to in July!

Tomorrow: Hanging out with Leanna and Ash, possibly to see Transformers.

Friday 13: Going to see Harry Potter on the IMAX with Leanna, Lalenya and whoever else she roped into coming. It'll be my first IMAX movie since... Matrix Reloaded I think. I also just realized that this is Friday the Thirteenth. And I am seeing a film with witches and an ultimate evil in it. Hmmm.

Sunday 15: Jackie's housewarming party. Stating in the the afternoon and going until who knows when (I haven't checked the buses yet). Fun times hanging out with peoples that I don't see often enough.

Thursday 19: Leanna's work is having a staff BBQ, and paying their employees to attend apparently. We're going to see Tom Cochrane at Ed Fest afterword most likely.

Sunday 22: Chantal Kreviazuk (yes I spelled that without looking) at Ed Fest with Leanna. I believe Jackie and Anita/Josh will be there too. Yay!

Tuesday 24: Ali's birthday party in the afternoon, followed by Emerson Drive at Ed Fest (Saw them a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised) Also one of Leanna's favorite bands.

Wednesday 25: Weird Al Yankovic at Ed Fest! Finally, it took twenty years, but I'll get to see the man in concert. Leanna may or may not come, I believe Ali is trying to come with me. Anyone else?

Thursday 26: Great Big Sea at Ed Fest! Another band I have been dying to see live, and I won't miss out on this for anything. Leanna is also stoked to see them. Carla - are you doing anything for your birthday this year? Cus' I'm totally going to be at the show.

Also Taste of Edmonton is on July 19 - 28, and I'm going there at least once, possibly more if the food is good enough.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of Ed Fest this year. But seriously, $10 for gate admission and a free concert? Why would I pass up even remotely good artists, let alone the likes of Weird Al and Great Big Sea.

Dave - when are you finally going to get your game on? I need someone else who will drool over Soul Calibur IV with me!

That's it for now folks. I'll be seeing plenty of you this month I imagine. Come see any of the concerts with Leanna and I, it would be fun

The rules: Each player lists 8 facts or habits about themselves; the rules of the game are to be posted first; at the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people.

1) I don't care much about my hair, and as such, I only cut it every 4-6 months. Basically when it gets long enough to start annoying me.

2) Related to #1, I have been getting relatively the same haircut since elementary school, just less frequently over the years.

3) My original Ocean Blue Winston hat was purchased at Value Village for $5 in order to complete my Halloween costume in 2000. I was dressing up as Elwood Blues and couldn't find a proper black hat for under $100. It was not until many months later that I began to wear it all the time.

4) The majority of the people I associate with I met either online or at a LiveJournal Meet-up. Leanna, Carla and Jackie are the notable exceptions.

5) Online piracy doesn't bother me as much as it should, even though it is basically an American problem in my eyes.

6) I have lived in St. Albert for 11 years as of this week. Nearly half my life and more than twice as long as I have lived in any other house.

7) During the past decade my dream jobs have varied between video game designer, actor(theatre), director(film), journalist, author, and a handful of other disciplines. All of them have involved me wanting to create something artistically, or in the case of journalism, write about them because I don't think I have the talent.

8) I have been threatening to make/design my own t-shirts for a number of years now, but have made very little progress in actually getting one done.

Not going to tag anyone, they probably wouldn't do it anyway. Though I am interested in what others would put.

Leanna and I are going to the Tegan and Sara concert in September at the Winspear. Not being a large enough fan when they made their rounds at the U a couple years ago, this should be a fun first outing to watch them. Floor seats are only $30 to boot. Now the only question is whether I go online Friday morning or if I trudge out to the Arden to get tickets.

So, there is a thing or three that I'm wanting to purchase from Think Geek and seeing as how any such purchase would incur import fees, I'm wondering if anyone else out there wanted to join together for a massive purchase and split the price of importing.

Not in a rush at the moment, and I can use my VISA card to buy online and anyone could pay me back to make things easy.

Let me know.

5 Questions from Jackie [May. 3rd, 2007|01:47 am]
1) What gives you the most comfort?

A really great hug from someone who cares about me. The feeling of being safe and wanted in the arms of another person, whether intimate or not is one of the best feelings. Being held is even better, as it is the same goodness for a longer time.

2) What inspires you?

Not a whole lot as of late actually. Seeing the work of other people is what I think gives methe most motivation to do something, whether it is writing, photography, a movie - anything that makes me go "wow" will likely get my creative juices flowing.

3) Where would you go to create, assuming you could go anywhere?

A cabin out in the middle of snow-peaked mountains with deep valleys of forests and streams. Some place in Europe, the Urals maybe.

4) What's your favourite memory from childhood?

Dodgeball classes, from elementary onward. It was, and probably still is, my favorite physical sport to play. I was very good at it too, which helped with the self-esteem stuff in my younger years. It's just so much fun to play, and you get a great workout from it if you aren't "dead" all the time.

5) How do you wish to be remembered when you're gone?

With a smile. It doesn't matter if I become famous or do some wonderful thing for the community. As long as the people who knew me can think back and come up with a happy thought about me, and perhaps even miss me, I'll be a happy corpse.

You can ask your own questions if you want to, one or five or twenty... I'll answer them, but not right away perhaps.

Massive Update [Nov. 28th, 2006|09:43 pm]
Alright, so I haven't written a post of substance here in a very long time. So here I am to update you on my life at the moment, and to record for myself where I am right now.

Nowhere to start for a cohesive post, so I'll just go for free thought typing. Last Saturday, I picked up two loveseats from someone I used to work with and hauled them over the Leanna's Mom's house to store for the time being. These are two identical cream coloured, REAL LEATHER loveseats with minimal wear (only a year or so old) that I bought for only $300 total. Shared the cost with Leanna of course, which makes for a very sweet deal. I only wish that I had room at home for them. They're all squishy an comfy too, so it'll be nice to lounge around in once I move out.

Which brings me to my next subject. I haven't moved yet, and I have no idea when I actually will move, but it is an inevitable fact that sometime in the next few months I will leave the nest and strike out not on my own. Leanna and I are looking at apartments in Edmonton, and want to leave home as soon as we can for the most part. This is due to various reasons, including a lack of good jobs in St. Albert for us, lack of apartments in St. Albert, and a general desire to not live with my parents anymore. They drive us nuts in more ways than one.

This of course will render me without a vehicle, not because my mom wouldn't give me the car, but because insurance would not be affordable in any reasonable way. This is another large reason to move to Edmonton and their far superior bus system. That's right. ETS may suck, but you have never met hell more fierce than STAT at nighttime.

I am currently... managing... at the bowling alley. The good job I once knew is gone, and right now I am taking comfort in the fact that I will leave that place in the near future. The wage is good, and I will miss that if I wind up at some crummy job once I move - but it's just not worth it to stay in St. Albert. Basically it comes down to the fact that there aren't enough staff, and therefore simple things like breaks are hard to come by. They really need people, and if it weren't for things like this, I would recommend the job to others.

Leanna and I have also spent some time picking up various odds and ends leading up to our moving out, such as dishes, a knife set, blankets and other similar house essentials. I know my parents are planning on giving us money/gift certificates for Christmas so we can go out and buy some larger items like a kitchen table and bed, but we are surprisingly well off in the furniture area.

Shifting gears a bit here, I love the Wii. The motion controller is very intuitive from my experiences, and though I still love and intend to play classic, pad controlled games via the Virtual Console and GameCube library, I am currently having a blast swinging my sword around in The Legend of Zelda. Wii Sports is cute and fun, and I know already that Soul Calibur won't be able to hold a candle to it and 5-PLAYER BOMBERMAN! Oh baby yes. I really want to have people come over and play it, whether it is an actual party or on an individual basis. Let me know.

My birthday is this friday, and while I am not having any birthday-specific event for my friends, I do want to see people. I went out to Bonanza tonight with my family to see what it was like, and tomorrow Leanna is taking me out to Le Spiga for expensive tasting Italian food. My birthday itself will be spent most at work sadly, with Saturday being my actual cake-and-presents thing before, again, spending the night at work. C'est la vie.

The library is closing now, so I will end this post and make my home for some gaming goodness, and hopefully some good eatin'. Respond here, email me. I never have time for MSN anymore, and I'm always asleep or at work when people could call me. Remember, I always have Wednesdays off, but they fill up quickly with various stuff. EMAIL ME! I miss talking to you people.

Computer trouble [Nov. 17th, 2006|01:22 am]
Ok, so I bought a new HP computer ago and for the past two weeks or so, whenever I have booted it up, there has been an error message of sorts popping up before XP loads. It is a black screen with a listing of the computer specs, and device status stuff. at the bottom of the screen is says "Floppy Disk(s) fail (80)" and "Press F1 for Setup or F2 to Continue"

I went into the setup screen once, but being completely lost, I left without changing any settings. So here I am asking for some help. Yes, the computer is new and yes I bought an extended warranty from Staples along with the computer, but if this is something small that can be fixed, then I would enjoy not having to bring my computer in for fixing. The DVD/CD combo drive plays discs just fine, but I haven't tested out the multi-card reader drive because I have no cards to test it with.

Please, any geeks out there tell me what needs to be done or a website where I can find more info.

Hilarity [Nov. 13th, 2006|12:18 am]
Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last month I helped [info]ali_kira see the light (8 points). Last Friday I set [info]anita_muffin's puppy on fire (-66 points). Last Saturday I donated bone marrow to [info]blahdeda in a life-saving procedure (300 points). In March I pushed [info]conmoto in the mud (-17 points). In April I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points).

Overall, I've been nice (226 points). For Christmas I deserve a Wii!

Sincerely,
katzztak

Write your letter to Santa! Enter your LJ username:

The hilarity part being that a Wii is exactly what I'll have in my hot grubby hands in less than a week. I was first in line at the St. Albert EB Games (5am for those keeping record) and I'll be definitely getting a Wii as a self birthday present.

P.S. Muffin, sorry about putting your pug in the oven, I really did think it was an early turkey dinner!

I just bought a new computer! [Oct. 12th, 2006|02:40 am]
That's right folks, no longer am I relegated to second class while using my computer! Leanna and I just shelled out $1000 ($500 each) for a new computer, monitor, printer and extended warranty. I've been looking for months now for a good deal on a computer, and regardless of what anyone says, or what better bundles are out there, I feel I scored with this bundle. It's got what we want, upgradeable for when we have extra money, and most of all, it just feels awesome to have my very own computer bought with my very own money for the first time in my life.

Here are some brief details about the system, while the full specs can be view here. The link is Amazon, but I bought the bundle at Staples as part of their Anniversary sale (and I had to go to three different stores to actually find a place that had the system!)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+
2GB DDR2 SDRAM
250GB Hard Drive
16x LightScribe DVD+/-R/RW Burner
9 in 1 memory card reader
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE 256MB integrated graphics card
Windows XP Media Center Edition

I love it. The only thing anyone could knock would be the graphics card. However, the most graphically intensive game I would play would be WoW, in which case the graphics don't mean shit, and the 2GB of RAM will more than satisfy me.

The monitor is a 17 inch flat panel LCD. Not widescreen, but whatever. The printer is just your basic HP printer, and it probably won't get used until I move out. I was hoping for an all-in-one, but alas. I will also need to pick up a ball-less, wireless mouse at some point (Christmas/Boxing Day most likely), but for now, I can manage.

I'm so pumped about this machine, it's the most expensive thing I've purchased since I laid down $400 for a PS2 back in Jan 2001. And when you compare the two, what I spent today is far more bang for my buck.

Been meaning to do this, got too busy [Oct. 11th, 2006|09:07 pm]
Once tagged by this entry, the assignment is to write a blog entry of some kind with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends and tag them; no tag backs. This explanation should be included.

1) I hated jeans while I was growing up because they were just too tight and restrictive. While I did go through a few years around High School where I wore jeans, I have since given up on them for the same reason, and now wear cargo pants.

2) I need to have pockets, preferably lots of them. This is a leading factor in why I wear cargo pants, and also why I wear a jacket even if it is blazing hot outside (getting better on that part though).

3) I constantly have great ideas for art projects, photo shoots, movies, scripts and the like - but they hardly ever come to fruition due to laziness on my part, or legitimate lack of time/resources to dedicate myself to creating something.

4) I need the approval of those I care about, even though I actively ignore anybody whom could give me good advice if that person is someone whom I don't have feelings for one way or the other.

5) I feel alone and friendless a lot of the time, because it seems like the only time I interact with people is when I seek them out.

6) Even though I have unlimited evenings and weekends on my cell phone, the only time it gets used is to talk to Leanna after work or occasionally home.

Not going to tag anybody here, even though there are a few people I would be very interested to read a response from.

I just found out earlier today that Debbie Jamieson, who was my Drama 30/ English 30 teacher at Bellerose passed away last Saturday. From what I was told, she found out three weeks ago that she had cancer, and died two weeks later. I'm still shocked by this, as she was one of my favorite teachers. I don't even know anything else about that situation, but I would like to find out. I don't really have much more to say regarding this, as I'm still trying to sort things out in my head...

Rest in Peace Mrs. J. You were so full of life.

School [Sep. 12th, 2006|05:33 pm]
Well, I'm the lucky one that hasn't had a single class at meine Uni.

7pm tonight until 10pm, I will be schooled in the ways of Rationality. Yay for 400-level Philosophy classes. However, I only have thirteen classes this school year, so I can't really complain.

If anybody is going to be around campus shortly before or after these times, give me a ring. I'm driving down to campus everyweek because it is cheaper than busing it, so it's not like I have to rush off somewhere right away.

So, I stay up until 8am so that I can pre-order tickets for the Barenaked Ladies concert because I'm in the fan club, and I find out the they cost omfg-ouch high prices. $71 for floor seats? $46 for 200 level? I recall the last time I saw them, tickets were $50 anywhere in the house.

I will not be going to see this concert. Not to mention the fact that the fan club pre-sale has the stupidest interface imaginable, in that it randomly selects seats in the price range of your choosing, rather than allowing you to pick where you want to park your ass for the evening. I couldn't even *get* 100 level seats for the pre-sale. Not that I would pay the $61 price tag for them anyway. I am verily annoyed by this.

What a fucking waste of my time.
